The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has unveiled a new biometric facial recognition system, known as V-Pass, which will allow passengers travelling through domestic airports to verify their identities without presenting physical identification documents.
The authority announced the initiative on Thursday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing the platform as part of its ongoing digital transformation aimed at enhancing passenger processing, strengthening airport security, and improving the overall travel experience.
According to FAAN, passengers will undergo a one-time enrolment process on the V-Pass platform, after which their identities will be verified through facial recognition technology at automated electronic gates installed at domestic airports.
The authority explained that once enrolled, passengers would no longer be required to present physical identity cards during check-in or boarding, as their faces would serve as their means of identification.
