During a meeting of the Intergovernmental Council, the leaders of France and Germany will discuss support for Ukraine, peace and security in Europe, as well as strengthening defense cooperation.

Emmanuel Macron made this statement in Bensberg, Germany, before the start of talks with Friedrich Merz, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

“During these talks, we will, of course, return to the main international issues—our support for Ukraine, peace and security in Europe, as well as the situation in the Near and Middle East,” said the French president.

He also mentioned the military parade held on July 14 in Paris to mark Bastille Day: “It was very important to see the President of Ukraine on the Champs-Élysées alongside the Coalition of the Willing, as well as the servicemen of this coalition, who marched in the parade alongside our troops.”

Macron emphasized that such a demonstration of unity was evidence of the emergence of a “Europe of strength” and a symbol of the continent’s strategic awakening.
