Greek prosecutors filed 281 criminal cases over the past three years for attacks involving explosive or incendiary devices, according to newly compiled judicial data – nearly one prosecution every four days.
The figures, gathered through the Justice Ministry’s new JustStat system, mark the first comprehensive tally of such prosecutions across all of Greece’s first-instance prosecutor’s offices.
Cases fell from 141 in 2024 to 99 in 2025 and 41 in 2026. Of the total, 162 involved explosive devices and 119 involved incendiary devices.
More than half the cases came from Athens, whose prosecutor’s office recorded 149 of the 281 prosecutions. Thessaloniki followed with 47. Alexandroupoli recorded 27, boosted largely by a single 2025 case involving 13 foreign nationals allegedly confined in a trailer by a 45-year-old man now facing felony charges; prosecutors separately charged the 13 with attempted arson, endangering human life and possessing explosive materials after a homemade device was found on them.
Piraeus recorded 10 cases and Lesvos nine, with additional cases in Halkidiki, Corfu and Ioannina. Just three prosecutor’s offices – Athens, Thessaloniki and Alexandroupoli – accounted for 223 of the 281 cases, while 47 of 66 offices recorded none.
