A 32-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death in Padappai, with two persons later surrendering at the Somangalam police station in connection with the crime.The deceased, identified as Rajesh, was a resident of Sethupattu, near Somangalam, in Sriperumbudur taluk of Kancheepuram district. He worked at a meat shop in the locality. According to the police, Thangam and Anandajothi from the same locality arrived at Rajesh’s house in a car on Wednesday night. They allegedly persuaded him to accompany them for drinks. Rajesh did not return home that night, prompting his family members to search for him.On Thursday, Thangam and Anandajothi appeared before the Somangalam police and allegedly confessed that they had beaten Rajesh to death while they were intoxicated. The police immediately detained the duo and questioned them.During the interrogation, they allegedly told investigators that the three had consumed alcohol at a vacant plot near Somangalam-Sethupattu Road. They claimed that Rajesh, who was heavily intoxicated, made obscene remarks directed at their families. Enraged by this, they allegedly attacked him with a stone, crushing his face, and later assaulted him with an iron rod, resulting in his death.Following the confession, the Somangalam police took the accused to the crime scene and recovered Rajesh’s body, which was found with severe facial injuries.
