The Department of Employment and Labour says its investigation into the Redcliffe, Verulam temple collapse is nearing completion.

The Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) has said its investigation report into the Redcliffe, Verulam, temple collapse is nearing completion and the matter would be referred to criminal prosecution if non-compliance is found.

On December 12, 2025, a four-storey building collapsed near the New Ahobilam Temple of Protection (owned by a family trust) in Verulam, claiming five lives and leaving several others injured.

The five people who died were: temple founder Vick Panday, 52, Food For Love Africa cook Vasudeva Datta Das, 65, farmer Kishore Hurribhujan, 63, electrician Jayaseelan ‘Jayce’ Perumal, 58, and construction worker Adbul Prabhus were killed during the incident.

DEL spokesperson Teboho Thejane said the incident was tragic and highlighted serious breaches in compliance within the construction environment.
