Waaree Energies Ltd on Wednesday said its subsidiary, Waaree Energy Storage Solutions (Waaree ESS), has commenced operations at its advanced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) container manufacturing facility at Rola, Gujarat, marking the first milestone in its planned 20 GWh integrated energy storage manufacturing roadmap. The facility has an annual capacity of 5.15 GWh, upgraded from the originally planned 3.5 GWh through production debottlenecking and improved battery cell energy density. It is equipped with Industry 4.0 technologies, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), intelligent material handling, automated assembly lines, and advanced testing and quality assurance systems, The facility will cater to utility-scale as well as commercial and industrial applications, the company stated in an official release.Clean energy transitionDuring the current financial year, Waaree ESS plans to operationalise a 5.15 GWh battery pack manufacturing facility, upgraded from the originally planned 3.5 GWh, and a 3.5 GWh lithium cell manufacturing facility, creating an integrated domestic energy storage ecosystem to support India’s clean energy transition and reduce dependence on imported technologies. The company said battery energy storage systems are critical for integrating renewable energy by storing excess solar and wind power, improving grid stability, reducing renewable energy curtailment and lowering reliance on conventional peaking power plants.Commenting on the development, Sunil Rathi, Director, Waaree, said the commissioning of the BESS container facility is an important step towards building a fully integrated energy storage ecosystem. He added that the planned lithium cell, battery pack and BESS manufacturing capacities will enable the company to deliver world-class, Made-in-India energy storage solutions while supporting India’s ambition of becoming a global clean energy manufacturing hub.Published on July 16, 2026
