Google DeepMind and Isomorphic Labs have announced a joint approach to bioresilience, combining their AI capabilities to better understand, predict, and defend against biological threats. The initiative builds on the AlphaFold technology that has already transformed how scientists model protein structures.
Isomorphic Labs, the drug discovery spinoff founded by DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis in November 2021, raised $2.1B in a Series B round in May 2026.
What bioresilience actually means here
AlphaFold 3, released in May 2024, expanded the system’s capabilities beyond proteins to model interactions between proteins, DNA, RNA, and small molecules.
Isomorphic Labs has already partnered with Novartis and Eli Lilly to accelerate AI-driven drug design. AI-designed drugs from these collaborations are expected to enter clinical trials by the end of 2026. The bioresilience angle adds a defensive dimension to work that has largely been framed around offensive drug discovery.
