Steps are being taken to increase the allowance given to government school students for stitching their uniforms, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said.Participating in Students’ Day celebrations organised by Directorate of School Education as part of the events organised to mark the birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Congress stalwart K. Kamaraj here, Mr. Rangasamy said the government has been providing uniform material and an allowance of ₹300 to each of the students as stitching cost.There were complaints that the allowance provided was not sufficient to meet the stitching cost for the uniform. So, the government has decided to increase the amount given to students, he added.The government was also taking measures to revive the scheme to provide millet snacks to schoolchildren, he said adding that shortcomings if any, in the functioning of schools would be addressed in the coming days. Speaking at the event, Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan said former Chief Minister’s life was an inspiration to all. He lived a simple life and evolved visionary policies, especially in the education sector, during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the Lt. Governor said.Pro-tem Speaker A. Anbalagan and legislators belonging to All India N R Congress participated in the birth anniversary celebrations. Earlier, the Lt.
