Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Tuesday said that he was confident of getting more funds from the Central government for the development and welfare requirements of the Union Territory.Speaking at the Jan Kalyan Sabha programme organised by the Local Administration department to popularise the Central government’s welfare schemes as part of 12 years of Narendra Modi’s tenure as Prime Minister of the country, the Chief Minister said his government was hopeful of getting additional funds.“The Centre has been helpful in providing funds. We need more funds from the Centre and I am confident of getting adequate allocation,” the Chief Minister said. Calling Mr. Modi a “visionary leader,“ the Chief Minister said what sets the Prime Minister apart was his commitment towards the development of the country. “I know him from his days as Chief Minister of Gujarat. He is firm and committed. The nation has achieved tremendous progress in the last 12 years and the growth achieved during the period has brought glory to the nation,” Mr. Rangasamy said.Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan in his address said people reposed faith in the leadership of the Prime Minister because of the schemes he brought in over the 12 years. Whether it is the scheme to provide financial assistance for street vendors, health insurance, housing, or assistance for self-employment opportunities to women, the schemes have brought qualitative change in the lives of the common public, the Lt. Governor said.“The schemes have made a difference in the lives of ordinary people. People have benefitted from the schemes. It has brought dignity, economic upliftment and provided safety cover to ordinary citizens. So people trust the Prime Minister,” the Lt. Governor said. The Lt. Governor and Chief Minister jointly distributed assistance to new beneficiaries enrolled under Central schemes. Pro-tem Speaker A. Anbalagan, Ministers A.
