The Chery KP31 / Stockman is under strong consideration for South African assembly.
Hybrid bakkies are not a new thing, but Chery is certainly hoping to ruffle some feathers in the segment with its new Stockman - which will be the first vehicle in its class to add diesel power to the equation.
Chery’s Australian division has revealed detailed specifications for the new bakkie, which will use the ‘Stockman’ name in that market.
Chery South Africa still uses the KP31 codename for the new bakkie, implying that it could receive a different name for our market. Nonetheless, local representatives say it is under strong consideration for our market, and local production at the firm’s newly acquired Rosslyn plant is also a distinct possibility.
The KP31 was shown off in accessorised form at Chery's Rosslyn plant inauguration earlier in July.
