The developer behind a plan to replace a hotel with a data center in El Segundo, California, has withdrawn their proposal.

Real estate development firm Eight Form was proposing the demolition of a Hyatt Place hotel at 750 N. Nash Street and the construction of a five-story, 230,780 sq ft (21,440 sqm) data center in its place.

– El Segundo Planning Commission

Planning documents show that the data center would have had 50MW of capacity.

But the developers backed down in the face of strong opposition from local residents who spoke during the public comment section of an El Segundo planning commission meeting on July 9, citing concerns about noise, water, and electricity usage, and the suitability of the location for a data center.
