Mohamed Salah, one of the most prolific attackers in Premier League history, has reportedly told friends he would consider a return to Chelsea if the club comes knocking.
Salah became a free agent after terminating his contract with Liverpool, effective July 1, 2026. His contract was initially set to expire in 2027, making this an early termination. That means one of the world’s most decorated forwards is available for nothing.
The Chelsea history
Salah’s relationship with Chelsea is one of football’s great “what if” stories. He joined the club on loan between 2013 and 2015 as a young winger but never got a real chance to establish himself in the first team. He left, rebuilt his reputation through stints in Italy, and eventually landed at Liverpool in 2017 from Roma, where he transformed into one of the deadliest forwards the Premier League has ever seen. In his nine years at Liverpool, Salah contributed to multiple titles and collected numerous individual accolades.
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has publicly expressed his desire to see Salah return, adding legitimacy to what might otherwise be dismissed as transfer window noise. Former Chelsea player Marcel Desailly has also encouraged the club to consider re-signing Salah, noting the obvious appeal of acquiring a player of his quality without paying a transfer fee.
