EXCLUSIVE: Hollyoaks actress Stephanie Waring has teased Cindy Cunningham's return to the soap brings new twists and new secrets, and a mystery past with Beth Keane18:30, 14 Jul 2026Updated 18:31, 14 Jul 2026Cindy Cunningham is back on Hollyoaks, and she's bringing trouble to the door of one newcomer.‌Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, actress Stephanie Waring spilled the beans on her big comeback after two years away. She warned that she'd be bringing plenty of secrets with her, with unexpected surprises on the way.‌After a trailer for summer on Hollyoaks confirmed Cindy and her niece Beth Keane had history away from the village, Stephanie teased to us what that was all about. She revealed they had been pretty close away from the village at some point, so what has led to them being against one another?‌Steph said more will be revealed, with a huge twist on the way that will "shock" fans. She shared: "There isn't just one reason she's back, there's going to be a few surprises along the way."There's things she's keeping to herself. She comes with secrets and I can say she has history with Beth offscreen. So that's the main driver for her to be back in the village as well.‌"But she is harbouring some secrets that will obviously come out along the way. People will find it." Teasing more about Cindy's history with Beth, who is the daughter of Cindy's late sister Dawn Cunningham, she said: "It's interesting because Beth is so feisty."I feel like she's taken on some of Cindy's traits. They have history together and are very similar and I think that's why they have bonded away from the village. Cindy was very, very protective of her in the past."Teasing what was ahead for Cindy when she heads back to the show, Steph hinted something huge was on the cards. Asked if there was anything she'd like to see happen for her character, she said: "What we are doing now is what I would have wanted.‌"What we're doing now is one of the biggest storylines I've had on the show. Cindy was always a vehicle in someone else's storyline." She went on: "I think what's coming will shock so many fans."What I'm really loving is the twists, there are many twists in this story that I have, it's very much full of them. It's one of those when you plant the seeds, and you want to see how it grows.‌"That's what I think fans will be staying tuned for, and wondering what's going on. That's what I'm loving about the show at the moment." Steph said she's hopeful it will be a while before Cindy focuses on her love life, after several bad romances.She told us: "I'd like to see her not chasing a man around the village again, which is what's different this time. She's not come back for a man. She's not looking for that next husband.
