The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has criticised the arrest of its State spokesperson Nagarjuna Yadav by the Telangana Police, alleging that the action was politically motivated and reflected coordination between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.Addressing a press conference at the party’s central office in Tadepalli on Tuesday, former MLA T.J.R. Sudhakar Babu, party spokesperson Vangaveeti Narendra, and YSRCP students’ wing working president Ravichandra alleged that the case was registered over remarks made by Mr. Nagarjuna Yadav during a television debate nearly two years ago. They questioned the timing of the action, claiming it reflected a political vendetta rather than a genuine legal grievance, and argued that authorities had failed to verify the authenticity of the video.Maintaining that political criticism during television debates should not attract criminal prosecution, they alleged that cooperation between the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments should focus on resolving inter-State issues rather than targeting opposition leaders.Mr. Sudhakar Babu described the arrest as political retaliation against a young BC leader and questioned why action was initiated after two years. He also accused the Andhra Pradesh government of failing to fulfil its ‘Super Six’ promises and alleged that the arrest was intended to divert attention from issues affecting farmers and other sections.Mr. Narendra alleged that Nagarjuna Yadav was arrested late at night without prior notice to his family and questioned the invocation of serious legal provisions. Mr. Ravichandra termed the arrest undemocratic and alleged it was aimed at weakening the YSRCP’s campaign against the State government’s land acquisition policies. The YSRCP leaders demanded Nagarjuna Yadav’s immediate release and withdrawal of all cases against him, asserting that political criticism should not be criminalised.
