YSRCP State spokesperson Karumuri Venkata Reddy on Sunday accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of extending political protection to individuals allegedly involved in the Molakalacheruvu fake liquor scam and facilitating their return to India after securing legal relief.Speaking at the party central office at Tadepalli, Mr. Venkata Reddy said that TDP leader Jayachandra Reddy, who had been named in the scam, was not arrested. Mr. Jayachandra Reddy had stayed abroad for nearly eight months before returning to India after obtaining bail, he said. The YSRCP leader alleged that the fake liquor manufacturing unit at Molakalacheruvu in Annamayya district had produced and distributed counterfeit liquor to belt shops and liquor outlets across the State, earning revenues of around ₹5,250 crore illegally. Such a large network could not have functioned without the support of influential political leaders, he said.Mr. Venkata Reddy further alleged that the charges against Mr. Jayachandra Reddy were diluted after being initially named as prime accused in the case. He accused the coalition government of selectively targeting opposition leaders while ignoring allegations against ruling party members. He also alleged that charges against K.N. Rajesh, political assistant to YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, were politically motivated and aimed at diverting public attention from criticism against the government’s two-year performance.
