Lorries that entered Thoothukudi town during prohibited hours and overloaded trucks were fined by the police on Tuesday.Despite the ban on the entry of the lorries into the town for unloading the cargo between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. everyday, a few trucks continued to violate this order to cause traffic jam and accidents within Thoothukudi Town.When the police organised surprise check at several parts of Thoothukudi Town on Tuesday, they found 5 lorries unloading the cargo in the town during prohibited hours. These lorries were fined ₹4,000 each.The police also organised vehicle check near FCI Godown in Third Mile where they slapped fine of ₹1.30 lakh on four overloaded tipper lorries.Police warn that repeating similar offence would lead to seizure of these heavy vehicles.
