One labourer died, and others sustained injuries due to a fire accident involving a furnace explosion on Tuesday at Jain Resource Recycling Ltd in Gummudipoondi near Chennai, the company announced to the stock exchanges.The injured labourers were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. The company is extending all necessary support and assistance to the affected persons and their families, the communication said.“Operations in the affected section of the factory have been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure due to the fire incident. Further, since the company is in the process of ascertaining the damage caused by the fire, the estimated impact, if any, on the production/operations due to the fire will be intimated in due course,” the communication said.The company added that damage caused due to the fire accident is covered under insurance.Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh to the family of the deceased and said it would bear the expenses of transporting the body to the victim’s hometown. Those injured in the accident will receive ₹1 lakh each, according to an official press release.Published on July 14, 2026
