A worker was charred to death at a fireworks unit in Virudhunagar district on Saturday.Chinnathambi fireworks, owned by Jayasakti, had a DRO licence for manufacturing fireworks. The unit had over five sheds and around 20 workers were engaged in their duties. They were carrying chemicals, when an explosion, possibly due to friction, led to a major blaze, a fire official said.Two sheds were completely razed down. The magnitude was so intense that the fire damaged a goods vehicle parked in the vicinity. The firefighters had a tough time in pulling out the charred body of a worker that got stuck between two sheds. The deceased worker was identified as Madasami of Meenampatti.Sattur Taluk police have registered a case and are investigating. Published - September 05, 2026 09:18 pm IST
