Vijayanagara Deputy Commissioner Kavitha S. Mannikeri has directed officials and contractors to complete all pending Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) works under Amrut 2.0 and underground drainage projects within the stipulated timeframe. She warned officials of stringent action against delays and substandard execution.Chairing a review meeting on the progress of the 24x7 drinking water supply project under Amrut 2.0 and sewerage works at her office in Hosapete on Tuesday, Ms. Mannikeri said that development works should be implemented without compromising public interest or quality.She warned that contractors citing repeated excuses for delays or carrying out poor-quality work will face legal action. They can also be blacklisted.The Deputy Commissioner noted that encroachments by roadside petty shops are hampering pipeline-laying works and instructed officials to hold discussions with encroachers and clear the sites immediately so that the works can be completed by August, with the entire project scheduled for completion by December this year.Expressing concern over the practice of showing progress only on paper, she asked officials to ensure tangible improvements in solid waste management and environmental protection in compliance with the directions of the National Green Tribunal and the Solid Waste Management Rules.She directed officials of various departments to work in coordination instead of citing technical hurdles. She said that household tap connections should be expanded only after the completion of work on water treatment plants and overhead reservoirs.Contractors were also instructed to deploy additional skilled workers and expedite electro-mechanical fitting works to overcome labour shortage and material supply delays.Ms. Mannikeri directed officials to complete all pending missing-link works under the underground drainage project at the earliest and submit a progress report by next week.Roads damaged during pipeline works should be restored without delay to minimise inconvenience to the public, she added.Officials informed the meeting that Amrut 2.0 is being implemented in seven towns in the district with population below one lakh.At Mariyammanahalli, where work commenced in 2023, most of the work on the 54 km-58 km pipeline and rising main has been completed. Civil works for the water treatment plant have been completed, while electro-mechanical works are under way.Of the three proposed overhead tanks, one with a capacity of 10 lakh litres and two of 5 lakh litres each, two are nearing completion, while work on the 10 lakh-litre tank has been delayed owing to site-related issues.Officials said that more than 4,400 of the proposed 4,488 household tap connections have already been provided in the town. Similarly, 80 km of the planned 102-km pipeline network has been completed and about 4,300 of the proposed 6,500 household connections have been provided.Most development works across the district are expected to be completed by the end of August, they added.District Urban Development Cell Project Director Manohar, Municipal Commissioner Eragudi Shivakumar, officials of various departments, chief officers of local bodies and contractors attended the meeting.
