A group of South African holidaymakers, who were reportedly visiting Mozambique legally, got involved in a heated exchange with a Mozambican local at what appears to be a seaside restaurant.

Claims that South African tourists were driven out of a popular Mozambique beach bar by local citizens has been denied by the establishment, and said the viral video of a confrontation at the venue was taken out of context.

A statement was released by Pinto's Beach Bar in Ponta do Ouro after footage of a heated exchange between South African holidaymakers and a Mozambicans did the rounds on social media.

The establishment said the incident, which took place on July 4, was not driven by nationality and should not be interpreted as Mozambicans forcing South Africans to leave the establishment.

"We wish to make it clear that this interpretation does not reflect the facts witnessed by the management and staff of Pinto's Beach Bar," the bar said.
