Disgraced lawyer, Peet Viljoen and his wife Mel, earlier in court.

The cooperation agreement between Melanie (Mel) Viljoen and private investigator Mike Bolhuis’s company Specialised Security Services (SSS) is off the table, as she breached the agreement.

This is according to a statement issued this week by Bolhuis in which SSS informed the public, past victims, and the relevant authorities of a “critical and regrettable development” in the ongoing investigations concerning Peet and Mel Viljoen.

This followed an announcement two weeks ago that Mel gave an undertaking that she would give her full cooperation in current investigations relating to the pair. But Bolhuis said new developments have occurred, which constitute a material breach of the cooperation agreement by Mel, which include that despite her verbal and written undertaking, she did not cooperate with SSS as agreed upon.

Bolhuis pointed to the two BackaBuddy campaigns, which were registered as fundraising campaigns for her husband’s legal fees. While Mel aimed to raise R400,000; however, both were closed down. Bolhuis said these campaigns were launched with the knowledge of Mel. “She did not consult or inform Specialised Security Services about these campaigns; she acted independently, contrary to the spirit of the agreement,” he said.
