Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi said the Cabinet approved the Repeal of Certain Pre-1994 Justice Laws Bill for submission to Parliament.
Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko said the process to repeal outdated colonial and apartheid laws is at an advanced stage, with a bill already approved by the Cabinet for introduction to Parliament.
Kubayi said Deputy President and Leader of Government Business Paul Mashatile had in September 2024 requested ministers to review legislation to repeal old and irrelevant legislation within their departments.
“Members of the executive were accordingly requested to bring the repeal or amendments of old order legislation to Parliament as a matter of urgency,” she said.
Kubayi was responding to MK Party MP Zwelakhe Mthethwa, who asked whether she had found that there were still laws that were enacted by the old apartheid order that deny black persons the justice of being part of the economic fabric of the country.
