Most of the evidence used to reopen the case of the fatal firebombing of a bank branch in central Athens 16 years ago that led to the arrest of three suspects existed in the police’s archive, but had not been used properly, the minister for the police, Michalis Chrysochoidis, said Tuesday.
“The vast majority of it existed and had not been utilized as it should have, after some mistakes that had been made in the past. I remind you that [the case of terrorist group] 17N was resolved 27 years later”, he said told SKAI television.
“Now the police, the responsible investigators, the officers and the ordinary policemen were able to work systematically, to collect the material, to evaluate it and to find all those elements, which, in their opinion, can lead to a charge.”
Chrysochoidis said a “fairly large volume” of evidence had to be evaluated.
