Five suspects have been arrested in Marapong township, Lephalale, for allegedly impersonating Department of Home Affairs officials and ordering a Nigerian businessman to close his business.

A group accused of taking immigration enforcement into its own hands is set to face court after five suspects were arrested for allegedly impersonating Department of Home Affairs officials and targeting a Nigerian businessman in Limpopo.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 58, were arrested in Marapong township, Lephalale, following an investigation into allegations that they confronted a local business owner and ordered him to shut down his operations because he was a foreign national.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the incident occurred on July 9 when the owner of a local lounge, a Nigerian national, was allegedly approached by a group of community members who claimed he had no right to operate a business in South Africa.

The group allegedly instructed him to close the business, threatened to destroy it and demanded that he leave the country.
