South African police have arrested 121 undocumented immigrants and 26 wanted suspects during a multidisciplinary operation targeting illegal immigration, illegal mining and other criminal activities in Limpopo Province.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the arrests were made during Operation Shanela II–Retshepheng conducted on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in the Apel and Mecklenburg policing areas of Sekhukhune District.
The operation was led by the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers.
According to SAPS, the operation involved roadblocks, stop-and-searches and targeted policing actions aimed at tackling illegal immigration, illegal mining and other crimes.
