The Bean Extracts has released Hasanand, a research-led documentary looking at the changing relationship between India’s indigenous cattle, agriculture and the rural economy.The 14.51-minute-long documentary looks at the economic, social and agricultural factors behind the decline of the desi cow, and what it means for the future of India’s farming ecosystem.The Bean Extracts is the documentary division of FinBean Media, focused on research-led films about the people, industries and ideas shaping India.A media statement said Hasanand asks the harder question: why, despite protection becoming policy at both the central and state levels, the desi cow continues to lose ground on farms.Quoting Suyash Maheshwari, Founder, The Bean Extracts / FinBean Media, the statement said: “The film is rooted in the work being done at Hasanand Gau Samvardhan Kendra, but we used that as a way to ask a larger question: why is the desi cow disappearing, and what does that mean for farmers and the rural economy?”KML Pathak, Secretary, MVH Gochar Bhumi Trust, said, “At Hasanand, our effort has never been only about protecting cows.
