Police have reacted to a video circulating on social media, allegedly showing a SANDF soldier kicking and hitting a woman during a scuffle in Balvenie Estate, Elsies River, saying it occurred after a resident attempted to stone vehicles during an arrest where 338 packets of cocaine and 59 mandrax tablets were confiscated.
SAPS, together with the Joint Standing Committee on Defence, said their offices received no complaints regarding the incident, while the SANDF has yet to respond.
The soldiers were deployed to the province in March to assist with curbing gang violence, with a price tag of R823 million allocated nationally for their deployment to support the SAPS with priority tasks.
The video shows a group of women in what appears to be a scuffle, when soldiers then attempt to break them apart, followed by a soldier who is seen hitting and kicking one of the women.
