United for our homes: Sydenham residents stand against unauthorised student accommodation.
Tensions have escalated in Sydenham over plans to convert the Salamat residential flat on Randles Road into student accommodation.
Residents and local leadership demonstrated outside the building on Monday morning, carrying placards in protest.
The company says the building is currently undergoing renovations and no final decision has been made.
Ward 31 councillor Remona Mckenzie said they were saying no to unauthorised student accommodation, after they were informed that the flat was going to be used as student accommodation.
