Home Office plans to convert a student hall of residence in a leafy suburb into asylum seekers' accommodation have been branded 'bonkers' by residents who fear it will turn their suburban street into a protesters' battleground.
House-holders living near Mary Morris House in Shire Oak Road, in the Headingley area of Leeds, West Yorkshire, are divided over the bombshell announcement.
Many are fiercely opposed - saying it will ruin the area as well as depriving students of ideal accommodation close to local universities.
Others believe the migrants will blend in in what is historically a student area - but fear it will lead to violent protests similar to those seen across the country.
House prices in Headlingley are £286,000, according to data from estate agents Zoopla - around £25,000 higher than the citywide average.
