DI Monica Kennedy continued her search in the Scottish Highlands for the serial killer preying on young men.22:27, 13 Jul 2026Tensions were at an all-time high during the new crime thriller.‌On Monday night (July 13), ITV viewers tuned in to watch another episode of a new twisted drama, The Dark. Featuring actress Laura Donnelly as DCI Monica Kennedy, the six-part series follows the DCI investigating a series of eerily staged murders while dealing with trauma from her own past.‌As teenager, Rob Wright ( Aaron McVeigh) was discovered deceased on his family's land, after being left paralysed while someone climbed through his window in the previous episode, DCI Monica realised there was a connection between Rob's death and Jason Morgan, whose body was found in the rural Scottish countryside.‌While Monica and DC Conor Crawford (Mark Rowley) attempt to find links between the two boys, they realise both of them are sons of workers at the local saw mill, which is run by Gloria MacLennan (Catherine McCormack).However, things take a turn when they learn that Gloria's son, Owen MacLennan (Jack Hesketh), has already spent time in prison for a violent crime. In the episode, while they question him as he admits to not having anything to do with their deaths, something isn't right.‌Towards the end of the episode, Owen calls DCI Monica, clearly wanting to tell her something he knows about who could be behind the attacks. However, he's interrupted by someone in a mask as the pair fight as the detective rushes over, hearing the struggle on the phone.Although as the episode came to an end, viewers are left wondering if Owen is another victim of the serial killer and why he was trying to be silenced.‌Throughout the episode, viewers were left perplexed by certain aspects as they issued their grievances online with many left confused with particular aspects.One person said: "#thedark so there's a ceiling light on in the room, but the detectives need torches to see numpty boy.
