Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, announced on Monday, July 13, that dialogue between Iran and Oman regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz and shipping transit through the waterway will continue at both the political and technical levels.
Referring to his brief trip to Muscat on Saturday, July 11, Araghchi stated that, during the visit, he met with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi and that legal and technical delegations from both countries discussed coordination between Iran and Oman on managing the Strait of Hormuz and vessel transits.
The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic added that these consultations will continue at the political and technical levels, though he did not provide further details regarding the core focus of the negotiations or the timing of the next round of talks.
Araghchi’s remarks come at a time when an IRIB correspondent, citing the IRGC Navy, announced that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed due to a violation of the fifth clause of the “Islamabad Agreement.” The IRGC Navy has also declared that ships wishing to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz must obtain permits from the Islamic Republic before transit.
