Iranian media reported on Monday, July 13, that the Embassy of the Islamic Republic in Vienna, Austria, issued a statement warning three European countries over their recent positions and urging them to choose between playing a “constructive and independent role” and “following Washington’s policies.”

The statement was released after the United Kingdom, France, and Germany issued a joint statement condemning the Islamic Republic’s attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and its missile strikes on regional countries, while calling for the “resumption of the ceasefire and negotiations.”

The embassy’s statement asserted that regional security and stability will not be achieved “through complicit silence or the issuance of futile statements.” It added that the three European countries must decide whether to play an independent and constructive role or, as the embassy put it, continue “blindly following Washington’s failed policies,” which the Islamic Republic described as contrary to European interests.

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic in Vienna also emphasised that Iran will exercise its “legitimate and undeniable right” to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty. The statement concluded by declaring that the Islamic Republic will not allow “violators of international law to masquerade as its defenders.”
