The foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany issued a joint statement condemning the Islamic Republic’s attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and its targeting of countries across the region. The three nations called for an immediate resumption of the ceasefire and talks between Iran and the United States.

The statement, published early Monday morning, July 13, also explicitly condemned Iranian strikes on Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan.

The UK, France, and Germany, collectively known as the “European Troika” or E3, declared that respect for the sovereignty of territorial waters and freedom of navigation are fundamental principles of international law.

The foreign ministers supported the swift and full resumption of international maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz and expressed solidarity with the Gulf states and other regional partners. The E3 concluded by demanding the reinstatement of the ceasefire and urging both Iran and the United States to return to the negotiating table.
