United States national champion Kate Courtney has joined FDJ Suez on a contract to the end of 2028.It is the two-time mountain bike world champion’s first professional deal with a World Tour team — and she signs for the French team after only two road races.Courtney will now target her home Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028 and in the meantime is set to compete at this season’s world championships, having earned her spot with a national title in her second-ever road race. The signing of the 30-year-old is the second major deal FDJ have struck this summer, having given a “historic” contract to former Tour de France Femmes winner and Giro d’Italia champion Demi Vollering in May.“We want to inspire the next generation, we are really ambitious and we are the number one team in the world,” CEO and team manager Stephen Delcourt told The Athletic.“When we first had contact with Kate, she wanted to do the maximum on the road. She wanted to target LA28. And for us, it was impossible to miss this opportunity.”Courtney has spent the majority of her career racing gravel and mountain bike races and earning multiple national and world titles — until she broke her wrist in 2025.“It caused me to step off the World Cup circuit for a few months, and I raced some marathon events, I learned that I love racing endurance events,” Courtney told The Athletic.“I loved racing in a team. I loved being able to do multi-day races. Then I learned that the Olympics road course would be a climber’s course in one of my favorite places. And I think together all of those things inspired me to start dreaming about something new.
