Demi Vollering has signed a new lucrative contract to keep her at WorldTour team FDJ Suez through to 2028.The three-time Grand Tour winner’s two-year extension is considered record-breaking in the women’s peloton, with team general manager Stephen Delcourt dubbing it “historic” and the “best contract in the sport”.Vollering, 29, joined FDJ Suez in October 2024 and won the European Championship and Vuelta a Espana Feminina in her first season with the French team. This year, the 2023 Tour de France Femmes winner has picked up spring victories at the Tour of Flanders, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Flèche Wallonne, and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad.“We are changing the rules (to) push more, always more — women need more,” Delcourt told The Athletic ahead of the announcement. “It is a unique contract. If I could pay her more I would.”Vollering is set to start her summer season off with the Giro d’Italia on Saturday — before her ultimate goal of regaining the Tour de France title in August after finishing second last year.“Over the last year and a half I have been part of an environment where everybody can truly grow not just as an athlete, but also as a person and I am very proud of that,” Vollering said in a release on Friday. “This environment has become home. I was more than motivated to keep writing the next chapters of our story together.“We want to inspire a whole generation of girls and boys, and move our sport forward as a whole. Stephen and the entire team have built a very strong foundation for that — one I genuinely believe in, not just for results, but for what we’re trying to create for this sport.”The extended deal will keep Vollering at FDJ Suez until the Olympic year, where the Dutchwoman will aim to compete in the Los Angeles Games. Agent Jan de Voogd told The Athletic the deal offered was “future-proof”, giving her “no reason to leave”.“I think about the young girls watching races today who might become the champions of tomorrow,” Vollering added. “That responsibility matters to me.“For me, everything starts with a dream. And right now, that dream feels bigger than ever – on the bike, and beyond it. I can’t wait for what still lies ahead, and to keep building, together.”The women’s Giro d’Italia begins on May 30, while Vollering will also take on the Tour de France Femmes starting August 1.May 29, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
