The district administration offices of Nagapattinam and Ariyalur observed World Population Day, under the auspices of the Health and Family Welfare Department with a host of awareness programmes on Monday.According to an official release, the events were inaugurated by District Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar at Nagapattinam.He administered a pledge to nursing students and government office workers to mark the day, and flagged off an awareness vehicle, followed by a rally.In Ariyalur, District Collector N. Mirunalini inaugurated World Population Day programmes on Monday.This year’s theme focused on the need to promote family planning to ensure the health of mother and child and prevention of unplanned pregnancies. The drive spoke about need to include men in birth control initiatives, and highlighted the options available through government health centres.Prizes were distributed to nursing college students who had won in oratory competitions to observe World Population Day.
