Marking World Environment Day, Nagapattinam Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar on Friday launched a mass tree-planting campaign, distributed saplings to the public and flagged off an environmental awareness rally in the district.The Collector inaugurated the tree-planting drive at South Poigainallur in Nagapattinam taluk, distributed saplings to members of the public at the New Bus Stand and flagged off an awareness rally from the Collectorate to Amrita Vidyalayam Matriculation Higher Secondary School.Mr. Praveen Kumar said World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, aims at promoting awareness on environmental protection and encourage collective action against challenges such as pollution, climate change, and deforestation.Later, he planted saplings along the South Poigainallur coast to formally launch the district-wide tree-planting initiative. Saplings were distributed to the public to create awareness about the importance of growing trees for environmental conservation.Schoolchildren participated in the awareness rally highlighting the need for environmental protection and tree cultivation.Forest Wildlife Warden T.
