The Sath Guru Samajam will host Maha Mariammen Garagam Pooja on July 17 at 6pm and July 18 at 3pm at LOT 16, Road 746, in Montford, Chatsworth.
The garagam procession will be on July 19 at 8am.
Maha Mariammen Garagam Pooja is a Hindu ritual dedicated to Mariamman, a goddess worshipped mainly in South India and among Tamil communities. She is known as the Goddess of rain, health, and protection, especially associated with curing diseases and protecting devotees from illnesses.
Garagam (or Karagam) refers to a decorated pot filled with sacred items such as turmeric water, neem leaves, flowers and sometimes a coconut placed on top. Devotees carry this pot on their heads during prayers or in a procession, symbolising devotion, balance, and surrender to the goddess. The ritual is seen as a way to cleanse the body, mind, and surroundings.
