Priests pouring the holy water on the kalasams as part of the Kumbabisehkam ceremony at Sri Mariamman Temple in Madurai on Sunday.

The kumbabishekam for the Sri Mariamman Temple and Sri Bhairavar Temple here in Teppakulam was performed in a grand manner in the presence of large number of devotees on Sunday.As the priests, pouring the holy water on the gopurams chanted vedic hymns, the devotees dressed n colourful attire witnessed the kumbabishekam proceedings between 6.45 a.m. and 7.20 a.m. A sub-temple of the world famous Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, special pujas were performed and aarathis were taken on the occasion. Yagasala poojas were also performed as part of the kumbabishekam in which a large number of priests participated.Tamil Nadu Minister for Energy and Law Nirmal Kumar, MLAs Kallanai, Gobison, Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple Thakkar Rukmini Palanivelrajan, former AIADMK Minister R. B. Udayakumar, Temple Joint Commissioner N. Suresh and other senior officials participated.As a part of the celebrations, Mr Udayakumar and his supporters distributed ‘prasadam’ to the devotees on the occasion.
