Zimbabwean-born UK fugitive Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, who is wanted in the United Kingdom over the alleged murders of his wife and two daughters, made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Tshuma appeared on a charge of possessing an unlicensed firearm. The matter was postponed to 22 July for the verification of his legal status.
The case attracted widespread attention after British authorities launched an international manhunt for Tshuma, alleging that he murdered his wife, 42-year-old Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, and the couple’s daughters, Natalie (15) and Nala (5), before fleeing the UK.
The search took an international turn when South African authorities confirmed that Tshuma had been traced and arrested in Kensington, Johannesburg, following an alert from Interpol.
Providing an update on his arrest, Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi said law enforcement agencies moved swiftly once the alert was received.
