The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of all 18 chairmanship positions and the 192 councillorship seats contested in Saturday’s local government elections, marking a clean sweep for the ruling party across the State.
Announcing the results at a press conference in Benin City on Sunday, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, EDSIEC Chairman, said the elections were successfully conducted across the State’s 18 local government areas and 192 political wards in line with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law 2022, as amended in 2026, and other relevant electoral regulations.
Aifuobhokhan said accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation and declaration of results were completed in accordance with the law, adding that returning officers at the ward and local government levels duly announced the outcomes after the conclusion of the collation process.
“Based on the official results declared by the returning officers, the commission hereby declares that the All Progressives Congress won the 18 local government chairmanship positions and all the 192 councillorship seats contested in the election,” he stated.
The EDSIEC chairman described the exercise as largely peaceful, noting that although a few operational challenges were recorded in some polling areas, they did not materially affect the credibility or overall outcome of the election.
