A confrontation between former prime minister Antonis Samaras and the government has intensified over the past week, with both sides preparing for a prolonged political battle.

Samaras escalated the dispute through TikTok videos and a request to the Supreme Court seeking a full investigation into the alleged surveillance of his telephone with Predator spyware.

The move signaled his intention to pursue a direct conflict with what he calls the “Mitsotakis New Democracy.”

Government sources said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis does not want to enter a cycle of extreme polarization. Officials insist responses will be limited and institutional.

“Only when a journalistic question is asked will there be an answer,” one government source said, adding that statements and press releases targeting Samaras are not planned.
