Tensions between former prime minister Antonis Samaras and the government appeared to move into a sharper phase after a series of public exchanges culminated in a formal intervention on Monday over the Predator surveillance case.

In recent days, Samaras has sought to intensify his confrontation with the government.

The dispute initially centered on a TikTok video in which he responded in strong personal terms to Dora Bakoyannis, saying she had not yet overcome her defeat in the 2009 internal party election.

Bakoyannis replied that “New Democracy forgave Samaras and made him prime minister. And he wants to harm it.”

The exchange was followed by a more serious and institutional move on Monday.
