The city of Visakhapatnam witnessed a vibrant start to the day as citizens from all municipal zones gathered in large numbers to participate in the ‘Happy Sunday’ programme. Residents, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), senior citizens, students, and members of various clubs transformed parks, community halls, and public spaces into hubs of activity.GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg termed the initiative a resounding success. He noted that the primary objective of ‘Happy Sunday’ is to promote a healthy lifestyle, strengthen social cohesion, and encourage active community participation.Between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., various venues across the city hosted an array of events, including health awareness drives, sports competitions, yoga sessions, and cultural programmes.Bheemili Zone: Sporting events were held in Ward No. 4 at Chepala Uppada.Madhurawada Zone: Ward No. 7 saw nearly 100 participants engage in awareness sessions focused on health and sanitation at the Swatantra Nagar Park.East Zone: Health, exercise, and walking awareness programmes took place on Beach Road in Ward No. 21.North Zone: Women’s walking competitions and awareness events were organised at the Marripalem Industrial Estate in Ward No. 45.South Zone: Yoga sessions were conducted at Lakshmi Talkies Park in Ward No. 39.West Zone: A team from Patanjali Yoga led training and awareness programmes in Ward No. 92, Gopalapatnam.Pendurthi Zone: The Community Hall in Ward No. 94 (Vepagunta) hosted fun games, including musical chairs, alongside yoga sessions for Self-Help Group (SHG) members.Gajuwaka Zone: In Ward No. 74, Dallivanipalem, yoga programmes saw the participation of 30 SHG women and local residents.Aganampudi Zone: Sports, dance, and cultural activities involving 40 Resource Persons and children were held at Devada and Golusuvanipalem in Ward No. 77.Anakapalli Zone: Training in skating was organised for 25 children at the Ring Road in Ward No. 84.
