The FIFA World Cup has once again reached a familiar destination.
After four weeks of drama, surprises and historic breakthroughs, the semi-final line-up features three European nations and one South American giant, reinforcing the dominance the two continents have enjoyed on football’s biggest stage for generations.
England, France and Spain will fly Europe’s flag in the final four, while defending champions Argentina are South America’s lone survivors following dramatic quarter-final victories over Norway and Switzerland respectively.
It means every remaining contender comes from the two confederations that have won every FIFA World Cup since the tournament’s inception in 1930.
