The briefing will provide an update on developments in migration management and outline key interventions undertaken by the state to strengthen its approach to ongoing challenges.
This media update follows nationwide protests against irregular migration held across the country on June 30. During those demonstrations, protestors called for stricter enforcement of immigration laws, stronger border controls, and the deportation of undocumented foreign nationals. The protests took place across several provinces, including Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape.
The committee has previously acknowledged that many South Africans hold genuine concerns regarding unemployment, irregular migration, service delivery strain, border management, and public safety, maintaining that these matters must be addressed through lawful and democratic processes.
