Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday said the arrest of suspects linked to the deadly 2010 Marfin bank arson marked a significant step toward justice for the victims and their families, while also highlighting recent security and economic developments in his weekly review.

The 2010 Marfin attack, which took place during a protest in Athens, killed three bank employees, including a pregnant woman. Mitsotakis said the state’s response to violence must be based on institutions, legality and effective law enforcement, adding that the case now rests with the judiciary. He also referred to the recent killing of Vayia Nestora, saying authorities had acted on their commitment to pursue long-unsolved cases.

Turning to foreign policy, Mitsotakis said Greece remains committed to dialogue and good relations with neighboring countries but cannot overlook Turkey’s longstanding threat to use force if Greece expands its territorial waters. He said cooperation cannot be built alongside threats of war.

The prime minister also discussed Greece’s role in NATO, defense spending, and efforts to ease pressure from rising energy costs. He said fuel prices would be reduced through an agreement with Greek refineries, with gasoline prices expected to fall by 10 cents per liter and diesel by 5 cents.
