A fire that broke out in vehicles parked beneath an apartment building in the western city of Patras early Sunday forced residents to evacuate as thick smoke filled the building.

The blaze started shortly after 4 a.m. in a motorcycle before spreading to two cars parked in the building’s open ground-floor parking area.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and rescued two elderly residents and one patient from the building.

No injuries were reported. Initial indications suggest the fire may have been deliberately set, although the cause remains under investigation, according to local news outlet Tempo24.
