The opposition party made the demand in a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, following the incident, which occurred on Friday, July 10, 2026.
The Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for an independent investigation into the collapse of a reinforced concrete slab at the construction site of the new Gombe State House of Assembly Complex, alleging possible violations of engineering standards, procurement procedures and workplace safety regulations.

According to the PDP, several construction workers and labourers sustained injuries when the slab collapsed and are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals across the state.
Expressing sympathy to the victims and their families, the party said the state government must take full responsibility for the welfare of those affected by the accident.
