The eThekwini Municipality has outlined the rules, regulations, and penalties it will impose on political parties for the display of election campaign posters in the run-up to the 2026 Local Government Elections (LGE) in November 2026.
The Economic Development and Planning Committee report on the conditions applicable to displaying election campaign event posters was tabled before council on Tuesday. The limited waiver of restrictive provisions contained in the eThekwini Municipality Outdoor Advertising Bylaw 2018 for the 2026 LGE was approved.
The municipality stated that there will be a refundable payment of R200 per political party/candidate per ward, conditional on removing the election material 30 days after the election date.
During election periods, the municipality has historically considered limited relaxation of certain outdoor advertising requirements to support democratic participation, voter awareness, and fair political campaigning.
